During the working tour Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan familiarized himself with the process of construction of the road segments connecting Davtashen to Ashtarak and Babajanyan to Astarak. The road Davtashen-Ashtarak with an uninterrupted traffic is being constructed by the 2nd trench of sustainable urban development program financed by the Asian Development Bank. It will have 6 traffic lanes with an average width of 28 meter and the length of 5.4 km. While presenting the working process to Mayor Taron Margaryan the persons in charge noted that due to the program Davtashen administrative district will be connected to the western entry of Yerevan in Ajapnyak administrative district-Ashtarak highway. The road segment will connect directly Chaush street to Ashtarak highway and Halabyan street with Yeghvard highway providing uninterrupted traffic without traffic lights. To provide it two-level transport junctions are constructed in these junctions.

Mayor Taron Margaryan also watched the construction of Yerevan by-pass segment Babajanyn-Ashtarak which will be of 9.4 length,6 traffic lanes with average width of 24 meters. The persons in charge reported that Babajanyan-Ashtarak segment will consist of 3 passages: for secondary streets as well as a transport hub in the junction of the new road and New Silikyan street. It was noted that during the construction all communication lines are being replaced and the external lighting will be provided with LED lamps.
Answering the journalists question Mayor Taron Margaryan reminded that the construction of Yerevan by-pass road provided for by the General Plan of the city started in 2014:
“We started the program in 2014 and in December of 2016 we put into operation the 5 km road segment connecting Arshakunyats avenue with Shirak street and Artashat highway corresponding to international standards. This way we provided proper southern entry to Yerevan which has an important strategic significance and used to be a just a dream for townspeople. Carrying on the western by-pass road construction in teamwork with the Asian Development Bank in April of last year we started the construction of Davtashen-Babajanyan road segment which as you can see is going at full speed and by the end of the year it will be put into operation. Within the scope of Davtashen-Ashtarak road construction we made it possible to solve one more important problem. A new sewage system was constructed in the adjacent private residential areas which used to be a serious problem for the residents”, said the Mayor.
Referring to Babajanyan-Astarak road construction Mayor Taron Margaryan said that this construction is planned to be finished in two years.
“In January of this year we started the construction of one of the longest and the most important segments-Babajanyan street-Ashtarak highway. We plan to finish it in two years. We can say that within the same period we will complete the construction of the 23-km-long road passing by the center of the capital”, said the Mayor.
Taron Margaryan instructed the persons in charge to pay particular attention to the improvement and landscaping of the adjacent areas including the installation of the new irrigation systems to provide proper care for green zones.
Summarizing the results of the tour Mayor Taron Margaryan said that at the beginning of 2020 we will have the road passing by the center of the capital and corresponding to international standards which will connect the northern and southern entries of Yerevan significantly relieving the traffic of the center of the capital and its main streets.
