The discussion aimed at increasing of protection of social rights of disabled people took place in Yerevan City Hall. The deputy staff secretary of Yerevan Municipality Samvel Mertarjyan, the head of Social Welfare Department Ruzanna Zakaryan, the person in charge for the programs of the Union of Disabled People of Armenia ''Pyunik'' Ruzanna Sargsyan, the experts of EU and the persons in charge of the structural subdivisions of Yerevan Municipality took part in the discussion.
Greeting those present the deputy staff secretary Samvel Mertarjyan noted that the efforts aimed at the solution of the problems of people with disabilities, are among the priority programs of Yerevan Municipality. In this regard tight cooperation was established with various NGOs engaged in the problems of disabled people which is greatly contributes to increasing efficiency of the programs and their expansion. He also outlined the activities aimed at ensuring availability in Yerevan which were fulfilled in recent years and stressed that the interested NGOs, carrying out the supervision, play an important role in it.
The person in charge for the programs of the Union of Disabled People of Armenia «Pyunik» Ruzanna Sargsyan presented the program ''Protection of social rights of disabled people through promotion of possibilities of NGOs and their participation in monitoring mechanisms of European Union'' which is fulfilled under financing of the Union of Europe. It was noted that within the frames of the program they particularly carry out the comprehensive analysis to estimate the protection of social rights of people with disabilities so as to exclude the contradictions between the provisions the RA legislation and the European Social Charter and the ''UN Convention on the rights of persons with disabilities''. And this discussion-meeting was also organized within the frames of this program. Ruzanna Sargsyan also noted that Yerevan Municipality is always ready to assist in the solution of the problems of persons with disabilities, as a result of which all the program are successful and are worth appreciation of the beneficiaries.
The EU experts expressing satisfaction with the willingness of Yerevan Municipality in their turn promised to discuss the possibilities of studying the bilateral experience and to present the report on the analysis at the end of the program.
