Hayk Marutyan: “Children’s railway can’t remain so badly-arranged”

The issues related to the proposals for reconstruction and development of the area of Children’s railway, surrounding garden and the former building of the Central Post Office with its surroundings were discussed during the working meeting headed by Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan and Chief Architect Arthur Meschyan. The representatives of different departments of the RA Government participated in the meeting as well. Mayor Marutyan stressed the importance of discussion of investment projects in such a format and outlined that the meeting aims to provide different state structures with the information about the proposals related to the city.

“The city authorities and the government should understand what future awaits this segment of the capital which is so dear for townspeople, understand that the spot reminding of childhood can’t remain so badly arranged as it is today:, stressed the Mayor.
The representatives of such companies as “Berkeley Company”, “Bogosian” foundation, “New Yerevan”, “Defy” , “Renshin”, “Rutsog-Invest” presented their program proposals related to the Children’s railroad. The projects envisage creation of a sport and recreation centre corresponding to international standards, modernization of the railway and renovation of stations, construction of an underground parking, renovation of tunnels connected with the Hrazdan gorge and some other projects which are important for creation of a proper recreation zone in this area which will be attaractive for tourists as well.
“Yerevan Municipality jointly with the colleagues from the government will consider all aspects of the presented projects and make a decision. Those present at this meeting can make sure that the process is maximally transparent and unbiased. I am more interested in the benefits for the city and I don’t care how much profit an entity can make. First of all it is important to ensure the proper look of the capital, the convenience of townspeople, implementation of investment programs beneficial for the city”, noted Hayk Marutyan.
The participants of the meeting addressed their questions, remarks and proposals to the potential developers.
