Yerevan day is marked in Leer, Germany

13.10.2016

By the initiative of our compatriot living in Germany Albert Tovmasyan, 2798th anniversary of Yerevan was marked in Leer, Germany.
Deputy Mayor of the town of Leer Bruno Schachner, member of European Parliament Matthias Groote, numerous Armenians living in Germany and local residents took part in the event.
During the solemn event organized in Armenian square of Inselgarten central park, benches brought from Yerevan and symbolizing the friendship between Yerevan and Leer were granted to the town by Yerevan Mayor and installed in the area.
Congratulating those present with the Day of the Capital, Albert Tovmasyan expressed special gratitude to Mayor Taron Margaryan and to the City Council for the support in the issue of creating Armenian square and carrying out this project.
We'd like to remind that a year ago, due t the efforts of the only Armenian family living in Leer, the Tovmasyans family the Armenian Khachkar dedicated to 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was installed in the same place.
