In accordance with Mayor Hayk Marutyan’s instruction, the program of capital renovation of the 6th segment of Circular Park in Yerevan is going to start. Previously shabby and badly-arranged segment will get a new look. Total area is about 16 000 sq m.

The area of 5044 sq m adjacent to St. Gregory the Illuminator church is being improved by the Union of Armenians of Ukraine. They undertook the construction of a modern skate-park in this plot. The contract was signed by Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan and the donator-the president of the Union of Armenians of Ukraine Vilen Shatvoryan in February of this year. The area will be well-arranged, provided with new LED lighting and landscaped. The head of Kentron administrative district Avet Poghosyan said that social responsibility is a highly important component of business for the new authorities, and Mayor Marutyan is always open for such cooperation. He assures that all parks and squares of Yerevan will be well-arranged step by step and returned to townspeople.
Circular Park was designed by architect Alexander Tamanyan wile he was making up the general plan of Yerevan in order to clean up the air in the city and to serve as a recreation zone for townspeople. However, in the 60s the area of the park significantly decreased and the circle was turned into a half moon, and in the 90s the recreation zone was piled up with various constructions and deprived of proper care.
Avet Poghosyan assures that the old trees of the capital will be preserved and lots of new one will be added so as to turn the area into a forest zone as it had been anticipated by Tamanyan’s plan. The authorities want Circular Park to be the lungs of our city.
The 6th segment of the park will be provided with new systems of irrigation and lighting, paths and walkways will be well-arranged, benches,dustbins, sheds will be placed, the whole area will have wheelchair access as well.

According to the head of Kentron district, first of all the area will have to be cleared up from all garbage, old metal constructions and other wastes piled here for years.
Circle Park consists of 6 segments, its total surface id 31 hectares 50-60% of which is occupied by entities. There are 98 leasers in the park.
Some of the leasers meet their contractual obligations, others do it only partially. There is also a group of entities the leasing contracts of which have been expired but they go on their activities. Mr. Poghosyan says, “We negotiate with those who don’t meet their obligations and urge them to remove their illegal property. We must do our best to clean up the whole park from piles of junk. A commission was formed to work with contracts, which are to be signed or resigned on shorter terms and better for the community conditions so that they could be terminated when leasers fail their obligations”.
This autumn the segment of the park stretching from Tigran Mets avenue to Vardanants street will be arranged into a new, comfortable and safe recreation zone.
