The first meeting of the Crisis Management Committee for Traffic Improvement in Yerevan, chaired by Mayor Tigran Avinyan, was convened to develop comprehensive solutions to the city’s increasing traffic congestion.
The working group consists of representatives from the Yerevan Municipality and the executive bodies of the Republic of Armenia.
“Following the Prime Minister’s instruction, we have gathered to address a matter of vital importance for our city — the increasing traffic congestion, the rising number of vehicles, and the broader challenges of road management. The main objective of this group is to identify urgent and practical solutions. We should focus on the further development of public transport, introduction of certain restrictions on the use of private vehicles and implementation of technological innovations. These will be the immediate measures to be discussed and implemented, while we must also keep in mind our long-term strategic plans, including the construction of the ‘Ajapnyak’ and ‘Surmalu’ metro stations”, emphasized the mayor.
During the meeting, the main causes of traffic congestion were discussed. Participants highlighted the importance of collecting reliable data based on accurate analysis of traffic flows rather than on subjective opinion.
“I expect firm, professional, and bold solutions guided by the principle that we cannot satisfy everyone, and that we must act in the interests of the city and for the benefit of its residents. Yerevan must become a modern city where mobility guarantees a high quality of life”, emphasized Mayor Tigran Avinyan.
