The project of full renovation of Mergelyan park, which has the area of 5000 sq m, is ready. The preliminary design got some changes after considering residents’ observations and suggestions, and the versions with more greening and landscaping has been chosen.
Walkways, benches, a playground and a sports ground, a fountain complex, a kids’ development centre: the rest zone, which used to be built with motley kiosks, cafes and broken carrousels, will soon look completely different.
The project envisages expansion of the green areas: approximately 50 young trees of valuable sorts will be planted to create a microclimate and a special look.
At the moment there are about 100 trees in the area. Specialists studied the trees and separated about 30 ones that are unviable and are to be cut down.
All parks and gardens of Yerevan that were given for leasing and remained neglected for years must be returned to townspeople and to the city – this is the approach the city authorities have adopted.
