“Naples is much closer to us Armenians than it seems”: Yerevan and Naples Sign Cooperation Agreement
An agreement on friendship and cooperation has been signed between the Municipality of Yerevan and the Municipality of Naples.
The signing ceremony was attended by Alessandro Ferranti, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Armenia, Francesco Senese, Diplomatic Advisor to the Mayor of Naples, and Hayk Sargsyan, Advisor to the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Italy.
The sides emphasized that the agreement lays the groundwork for the implementation of joint programs and the exchange of experience.
Highlighting the importance of strengthening ties with Italian cities, Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan noted that Naples holds a special place.
“Naples is a city that is much closer to us Armenians than it seems. In the historic center of the city, there is a street named San Gregorio Armeno, dedicated to Saint Gregory the Illuminator, whose relics are preserved in the church bearing the same name. It is a strong and beautiful symbol of the centuries-old bond between our nations.
In 2023, during a conversation with my colleague, the Mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, we discussed the possibility of establishing a direct flight between our cities. That idea was also raised here in Yerevan, and I am glad to announce that it has now become a reality. The Yerevan–Naples direct flight was launched in October, bringing our cities even closer. With this newly signed agreement, we look forward to launching new initiatives with our partners in Naples,” stated the Mayor.
