10 buses of public transport in Yerevan have been equipped with the lifts for people with disabilities

The presentation of the program of bus equipment with lifts for the passengers with disabilities has taken place. The representatives of a number of NGOs were present at the event. In 2014 Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, within the frames of the programs of the Municipality of Yerevan instructed persons in charge to purchase and equip 10 buses with the lifts for people with disabilities.
At the end of the previous year the special lifts were distributed to Yerevan. At the beginning of 2015 the process of installation of the lifts started in the buses of “Higer” make. The head of the Department of Transport noted that before starting the operation thay had taken into account the opinions and offers of the people with disabilities. The Assistant to the Mayor Samvel Mertarjyan stresed that the initiative is considered as a part of “More available Yerevan” program and expressed confidence that the residents of Yerevan would help people with disabilities though the lifts make it possible for them to get on the bus by themselves. 10 routes have been chosen so far, the time of services has been coordinated with NGOs.
The routes of the specially equipped buses have been worked out so as people with disabilities have the opportunity to reach the center of the city and get back. Accordingly, the route N 13 is to work in the direction of Kanaker Zeitun, Arabkir, Kentron, the route N 20-from the administrative district of Avan, reach the district of Kentron, route N 22-fron Nor Nork through Kentron is to reach Erebuni district, route N 28- from Nor Nork through Kanaker Zeitun is to reach Arabkir and Ajapnyak and to the international post-traumatic rehabilitation center “Gratia” of the Armenian Society of Red Cross. Route N 35 from Nor Nork through Kentron is to reach Ajapnyak and Malatia Sebastia.
The beneficiaries, testing the technical capacities of the buses noted that they are really comfortable, and expressed hope for the care and attention.
On the sides and the fronts of the buses corresponding stickers with the phone numbers of dispatcher services 010-67-44-28 are stuck. By this phone number a beneficiary can get information about the time when the bus will get to this or that stop. The program is to be continued in 2015. Financial means are to be disbursed from the city budget and the number routes will increase.
