Developed In Several Directions
The changes in the Yerevan Zoo are visible right from the entrance. The arch of the entrance designed by the Chief Architect of that time Gevorg Aghababyan has been renovated and got a new look.
A new electronic ticket system was installed in the Zoo. Another achievement of 2022 was the security system. Today, the whole territory of the Zoo is under video surveillance thereby increasing the safety of animals.
The area of the zoological garden has been replenished with noticeboards and signboards, as well as with energy-saving illumination. One of the priority problems requiring urgent solution was well-arrangement of the territory and renovation of enclosures. The activities started last year are still going on. Some of the animals’ enclosures have already been renovated and the renovation of the kitchen area is being carried out.
In 2022, the Zoo had several new arrivals. Some of them were born here, others were donated. Currently there are 145 species of animals among which are an African Ostrich, some species of birds which can be found in the Red Book, an Amur Tiger. The vet clinic of the Zoo has been renovated and re-equipped with new apparatuses.
In parallel with the implementation of development programs, it became possible to increase the salaries of all employees of the Zoo.
The activities fulfilled in 2022 were presented and summarized at the meeting of the Board of the Yerevan Zoo. Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan, First Deputy Mayor Levon Hovhannisyan participated in the meeting.
Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan considered the activities as positive and stressed that it is necessary to attract additional sources of financing. He also outlined that there is still a lot to be done for the development of the zoological garden. This year new programs are planned in this regard.
In 2023, it is planned to solve the problem of a new energy supply system and the problem of sewage. Greening and landscaping of the territory are also anticipated. The tower where birds ‘enclosures are located will be renovated and serve as a scientific centre for students. New arrivals are also expected. In accordance with the agreement made last year, in 2023 the Zoo is going to become a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA).
