“A fragment of a peculiar ornamented jug, some fragments of Urartian period utensils have been found in the area of Karmir Blur archaeological site where excavations started a few days ago. The samples date back as far as 7th century BC, some fragments belong to the 7-6th centuries BC”, told the director of “Erebuni” historical and archaeological reserve-museum Mikael Badalyan.

The fragments of ancient utensils were noticed during the construction activities at Argavand-Shirak segment of the western bypass of Yerevan. The specialists stopped the work immediately, and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport gave the permission to start urgent diggings.

Mikael Nalbandyan informed that in the upper segment some ruins can be seen. There are three stones set in one direction. It could be a tomb, a wall or some other construction. It actually has an archaeological significance.
Every day new groups of volunteers join the excavations. Love for the city and its history unites people of different ages and professions.
The diggings will be continued in the area adjacent to the road as well as in the spot to the right from the main entrance. The wall of the Ararat kingdom period was first noticed by the employees of the archaeological site.
The width of the external part of the wall is 2 m. It might be a part of a residential quarter or a defense wall. The excavations are to be continued as other exclusive findings can be revealed here.
The cuneiform ornamented fragment of the utensil will enrich the collection of the museum. The area of Erebuni reserve-museum still keeps lots of mysteries and may tell a lot of interesting. It can also become the centre for archaeological tourism development.
