The new motorway connecting Leningradyan street and Admiral Iakov avenue has been put into operation

The RA President Serzh Sargsyan accompanied by Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan got acquainted with the new city motorway stretching from Leningradyan street to Admiral Isakov avenue. This road bypassing the city center,was constructed with the aim of the traffic relief in the roads leading to the center of the capital, in accordance with the General plan of Yerevan of 2005-2020. It was designed by “Yerevanproject” CJSC by the order of the Municipality of Yerevan. The construction was started in July, 2012 and finished on May 31, 2014.
During the official ceremony of opening the motorway Yerevan Mayor reported to the President of the Republic that the total length of the road with the 9 roads of junctions is 5,1 km and the length of the motorway itself is 2,9 km. The total length of 9roads of the junction is 2,2 km. The width of the traffic way is 15 m, the width of the middle segment is 4 m, and the width of the sidewalks is 2.25 and 2,5 m. Two junctions of different levels were constructed in the junctions of Leningradyan street and Isakov avenue. The junction of Isakov avenue provides uninterrupted traffic and creates the transport connection between Admiral Isakov avenue and the new road. A three-span monolith overpass was constructed. In Leningradyan street a tunnel passage was constructed. The length of the tunnel is 46 m,its width is 16 m and the height is 5,1 m.
A system of external lighting, 3 tranformer substations, 157 pillars and 486 LED lamps were installed along the whole motorway and 30 projectors were installed inside the tunnel. Taron Margaryan stressed that the road is lit with new LED energy saving lamps. Besides, the Mayor reported to Serzh Sargsyan that in parallel with the road construction the area of 5 hectares had been landscaped, 2000 decorative trees and bushes had been planted. A new pump station, an irrigation system of 12 km and a sewage system of 4 km had been constructed.
The President of the Republic was also reported that with the aim of construction of the area adjacent to Leningradyan highway a road of local significance of 6,8 m width had been constructed too. The construction was carried out by “Sahakyanshin” CJSC. The total expenditures made up AMD 7896,0.
The draft of the motorway of 3,1 km to be constructed within the frames of Yerevan development program was presented to the President. This road is to connect Arshakunyants avenue with Isakov avenue. It is to pass over the Hrazdan river, along the edge of “Yerevan-Berd” quarter which is in the process of drafting and can join the transport junction of Isakov avenue thus providing uninterrupted traffic from Ashakunyats avenue in the direction of Leningrayan street and making the traffic to the center of the capital less heavy.
Answering the questions of the journalists Mayor Taron Margaryan stressed that the construction of bypass road is to be continued. Today we have put into operation a new motorway which is of great significance for the capital. The construction was planned in the 1970s but because of the lack of finances it hadn’t been realized. I congratulate all the residents of Yerevan and thank all the builders who have been able to put into life this project due to their hard work”, said Taron Margaryan.
The Mayor also added that the road connecting Isakov avenue with Leningradyan street was constructed in accordance with modern requirements. “Our aim was to construct a safe road of high quality. The new motorway will become an important junction joining three administrative districts. By the way, the road is lit with new LED lamps. We have also constructed a pump station and an irrigation network of 12 km. As you can see, in parallel with the road construction we have landscaped the area of 5 hectares, more than 2000 decorative trees and bushes have been planted. The construction of this road is a big achievement for Yerevan”, said Taron Margaryan.
