Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan was present at the event within the scope of which the expansion of the drainage tunnel and reconstruction of the tunnels of Yerevan Metro were started. The second stage of the project is supported by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the European Investment Bank and the Investment Fund of EU neighborhood program. The EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti, the head of the European Union delegation in Armenia, Ambassador Traian Hristea, other officials, guests were present at the event.
In his greeting speech Yerevan Mayor underlined that the EBRD is a reliable and serious partner for Yerevan Municipality and expressed confidence that the bilateral programs would be continued including other spheres of urban development.
“Ensuring the safe operation of the metro is a task of priority for us. The programs of cooperation with EBRD carried out in recent years served this purpose and the second stage of this project first of all would ensure safe traffic for Yerevan citizens. We have always highly appreciated the quality of our partnership and the projects carried out jointly have always been successful. Today we have signed the credit agreement of the pilot project of street lighting of Yerevan. The cooperation within the scope of the agreement would be effective too”, stressed Mayor.
In his turn emphasizing the importance of cooperation with the Municipality of Yerevan and expressing gratitude for constructive teamwork the EBRD President Suma Chakrababrti expressed willingness to carry on the bilateral projects in other spheres of urban development as well.
The deadline of the project realization is 24 months.
