03.07.2015

During his working visit to Shengavit district Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan familiarized himself with the process of road construction going on within the frames if the investment program of Yerevan’s sustainable development. According to this program, Shirak Street is to be prolonged and Ashatarak causeway is to be broadened and reconstructed. The aim of the mentioned program is to have a south road gate to Yerevan which would correspond to international standards. The persons in charge reported that by the second stage of the credit program of the Asian Bank for Reconstruction and Development, a circle road is to be built at 8-9 m platform in the mentioned-above road segment. This road is to connect Arshakunyats avenue to Shirak street. 2 tunnels passages are to be constructed in the filled platforms to provide railway and Noragavit 1st street traffic. An overpass of 270-m length and about 9 m height is to be built over the railway of Ashtarak causeway. It was noted that the median strips of the roads are to be built in “New Jersey” style reinforced concrete constructions.
Attaching particular importance to the implementation of large-scale road construction in the capital Mayor Taron Margaryan stressed that serious steps were being taken in the direction of the construction of new bypass roads aimed at the traffic regulation in the capital.
“I am sure that everybody would agree that we have serious problems with traffic flows relief in the center of the capital. The large-scale road construction program implemented by the Municipality recently is in this context. This program of 5 km road construction is being fulfilled in Shengavit district within the program of sustainable development of the city too. Last year, within the frames of the first stage of this project a segment of 1,3 km between Labour square of Arshakunyats avenue and Shirak street was completely renovated and expanded, the infrastructures were renewed:water pipes, sewage system, electricity lines; the lighting system was modernized in accordance with international standards being equipped with energy saving LED lamps. Currently, the construction works of the 2nd stage are being carried out which started in January. It is planned to prolong Shirak Street, as well as to expand and reconstruct Artashat causeway. To provide convenience and proper service of the people living here a new road with additional traffic zone will be constructed adjacent to the living quarters, besides, an over ground pedestrian crossing will be constructed”, said the Mayor.
The Mayor walked about the building site, talked to the builders.Watching the process of implementation Taron Margaryan instructed the persons in charge to keep the quality of the process under everyday control. On the spot, the Mayor was shown the draft and explained the details of the current phase of the construction.
“The overall construction of this stage is scheduled to be over in summer of 2016, and as a result we will have a road corresponded to international standards with uninterrupted traffic which will connect the capital with Ararat region. Thus, we will have a southern road gate of the capital. We haven’t had such a road for many years and for this purpose we used the road of local significance passing through Noragavit. Our perspective goal is to have one unified bypass road corresponding to international standards, which would connect three important gates of the capital and pass by the center of the city. So, after confirmation of the next stage of the program it would be carried on, and from the segment of Shirak street adjacent to Karmir Blur, along the new bridge being built over the Hrazdan river, along Argavand causeway, Babajanyan and Tichina streets it would get Ashtarak causeway and Davtashen quarter, and we would have a motorway passing by the city center. It would make it possible to connect Artashat, Ashtarak and Zovuni causeways with one another. As a result the traffic in the center of Yerevan would be significantly relieved”, said Taron Margaryan.
The persons in charge assured the Mayor that the construction of the road would be finished as scheduled. It was also noted that in this segment of the motorway, where there are private areas and estates, the owners have been given and are given equivalent compensation.
