Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan convened a working conference in which the Chief Architect of Yerevan, the director of «Yerevanproject» institute and the employees of the Department of Architecture and Construction, Department of Urban Development and Land Control, the division of urban development regulation took part.

The main defects of work carried out in 2015 and the further plans in the sphere of urban development were included in the items of the agenda. As a priority task the Mayor outlined the problem of preservation of the architectural and historical heritage of Yerevan.
«I have recently read in the press the comments of young people on preservation of the old buildings of Yerevan and the fact that they are not indifferent to this aspect, that they fight for preservation of each stone makes me feel glad. The problem can't be solved by blaming one another, and in such cases the Municipality must play the role of a mediator. So, what have you done these days? Disjointed and evasive answers of our specialists cause more misunderstanding», said Taron Margaryan.
The Mayor demanded careful attitude from the officials of the sphere who can and must require the builders to exclude the projects which don't harmonize with the architectural look of Yerevan.
«Sometimes I have the impression that you represent the interest of the developers in the Municipality instead of representing the interests of the city. An architect is a man who should leave a trace in history. What trace do you want to leave? Remember once and for all that urban development solutions must not be implemented to the detriment of Yerevan. Moreover, Yerevan Municipality is not a design office to fill in the documents and go home. Change your attitude. Be demanding and principle with the customers», stressed the Mayor.
Taron Margaryan also added that neither he nor Yerevan Municipality had never avoided responsibility. It's necessary to inform the citizens that the numerous urban development problems, construction permissions and many disputable solutions are not the result of today's activities. Everything had been accumulated for many years And unfortunately, from the point of view of legality, in many cases Yerevan Municipality can't dispute those solutions The Mayor instructed to ensure maximal transparency of the activities being carried out.
« Our recent studies show that the issues related to urban development and the external look of the city are very important for our co-residents and they want to participate directly in decision making. Work out the mechanisms which will provide maximal transparency and public participation. Yerevan residents must take part in the discussion of the problems concerning them», said Taron Margaryan and added that in connection with highlighting similar issues the cooperation with mass media is essential as incomplete and biassed materials harm not only Municipality but Yerevanians as well.
