Taron Margaryan took part in the opening of the bust of Armenian freedom fighter Arabo
Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan visited Avan village of Aragatsotnmarz /region/ to take part in the opening of the bust of the national liberation movementfigure, the first Armenian Fedayi /freedom fighter/ commander Arabo.
The honor of opening the bust opened within the frames of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was given to Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan and to the Governor of Aragatsotn marz Sargis Sahakyan. The initiative of placing the bust belongs to the head of the Yerevan Municipality Department of Architecture and Urban Development Andranik Kasaryan, who is the architect of the bust together with Tigran Barseghyan. The sculptor of the bust of the brave Fedayi is Eduard Shakhikyan. Such kind of monument has been placed in this village populated by descendants of Sasun and Mush natives for the first time and it turned into a real celebration.
During the ceremony of opening the representatives of Aragatsotn Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church served the requiem liturgy in commemoration of the fallen in the national liberation struggle. The event was accompanied with national dances and songs. Greeting those present Mayor Taron Margaryan said that each similar action bears a symbol of patriotic upbringing of generations. The mayor put flowers at the bust of the hero.
“This day is another occasion to remember and appreciate the heroic commander of freedom fighters and to take lessons of true patriotism which is certainly very important for bringing up a generation devoted to the homeland. I am sure that the bust of Arabo will always be surrounded by people and it will become a place of pilgrimage not only for the villagers but also for many other descendants of Mush and Sasun natives”, said in his speech the Mayor.
