The first meeting of the working group of “Smart city concept in Yerevan” took place in Yerevan City Hall during which were discussed the issues aimed at working out the concept of “Smart City” within the frame of the program “Information technologies in disaster risk reduction” being carried out by the UN development Program. Presenting the necessity of implementation of the program in Yerevan, the head of Development and Investment Programs Department Mr. Armen Harutyunyan noted that the goal of the program is to work out innovative technologies aimed at risk management and sustainable development of Yerevan and to make suggestions in this regard.
The UNDP expert Ara Nazinyan in his speech noted that a number of formats and suggestions had been made regarding “Smart City” concept; different organizations suggest special approaches for the “Smart” development of cities and communities. Yerevan has its peculiarity, its theory of “Smart City”, development functions, implemented projects and a potential. In this context the participation of the representatives of all the spheres related to the problem in the process of working out the conception was particularly stressed. Simultaneously, the UNDP experts suggested forming the concept of “Smart City” in Yerevan in accordance with Sendai conference and the targets of Sustainable Development Goals.
As a result of discussions and teamwork the process of working out the concept of “Smart City” and the road map for Yerevan has started and this fact will become the basis for effective planning of the work as well as for the attraction of necessary resources.
