To use European technologies in the asphalting of the capital, by the mayor’s assignment several international specialists arrived in Yerevan. After six-month studies the production of asphalt was started in Yerevan the technology and the quality of which completely satisfy European requirements. First, the gravel-mastic composition of asphalt is examined in laboratory and only afterwards the necessary volume of asphalt is produced and carried to the streets of the capital. This new European technology called “Shma” has already been used while asphalting two streets in the capital. The Bagramyan-Mashtots segment of Isahakyan street, as they say the first swallow of “European asphalt” in the capital. “Nowadays the achievements of science, new technologies and new inventions are widely applied in Yerevan. This new technology has been used in Europe for some years, in Moscow it has been used for two years already. Yerevan isn't behindhand Europe,” says the head of Building and Improvement department of the City Hall Frunz Basentsyan. On specialists' opinion, the advantage of the new technology is its strength and durability which is caused by the new stuff used in its composition. Sandy gravel contains sand, gravel, mineral powder and cellulose. The specialists assure that using the new technology guarantees 15 years of exploitation. “The mixture differs from the one we used before. It contains minimum sand: instead of 40-50% they use only 15-20%. Besides, it contains 0,2-0,3% 0f cellulose and together with low content of sand it guarantees that the asphalt cover will not have cracks and waves”, said the director of “Khachar” Ltd Ashot Baghdasaryan. According to the head of Building and Improvement department of the City Hall of Yerevan, from this time on all the new streets in Yerevan will be asphalted with the use of new technology.
Both this and all citywide programs implemented in the capital are tightly controlled by the mayor. The builders note that the mayor personally checks the quality of the work on the spot. By the mayor’s instruction, another innovation has been used while asphalting the streets this year. The reconstructions in Tbilisi highway are being fulfilled with the use of special equipment which hasn’t been used in Armenia before. As the specialists assure, this powerful technique produced in Germany and belonged to “Recycler” type is number one in the sphere of street reconstruction: the machine destroys the old asphalt coat in the depth of 30-40 cm, recycles it, processes it again and spreads it back. The vibro-roller with capacity of 40 tons is used afterwards, which rams the road creating strong ground for the new road. The new layer of asphalt is put upon this ground. Owing to using the new technology, cracks and pinchers are excluded to appear. Tbilisi highway is one of the entries to the capital and is very busy. After the reconstruction accomplished with the new technology it will have a completely new look. The program is comprehensive: the street borders are being changed, the pavements are being improved, the external lighting system is being renewed. According to the city improvement program of the City Hall, the reconstruction is being fulfilled in Tsitsernakaberd highway as well. Up to now this road of 2 km long was a two- way street with traffic SSB. After the reconstruction the road will have a two-lane traffic on both sides. The price of the reconstruction is 800 million AMD, the financing is implemented due to Yerevan city budget. After broadening the road new pavements will be constructed. The external lighting network will be completely renewed. The construction of a new drainage system is included in the program of highway reconstruction by the mayor instruction. Improvement works are going on at full swing in Tamantsineri street where tram lines are being dismantling, in David Anhakht Street the tram lines have been completely removed and now asphalt covering is going on here. In a few days the work will be over. According to the annual program of city improvement, of 1 million sq m anticipated for this year 400 thousand sq m have been asphalted which make up 43%. The program is implemented according to established schedule.
