On January 11 the mayor of Yerevan Karen Karapetyan received the regional director of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development Paul Henry Forester. The aim of the meeting was the discussion of the problems connected with the programs implemented in the capital by the EBRD financing and with their continuity. Greeting the guests the mayor of Yerevan emphasized that all the programs confirmed between the municipality and the EBRD must be continuous. Paul Henry Forester submitted to the mayor the program of the Yerevan Underground security according to which it is anticipated to do primary capital investments aimed at the modernization of the Yerevan Underground. The program consists of two stages first of which is already in process. The parties agreed to start the second stage of work in 2011.
It should be noted that according to that program the rolling-stock of the Underground will be renewed, the track ways will be improved, the power supply system will be reequipped, the pumps will be changed. Besides, it is provided to apply maintenance means and to build a drainage system. The problems connected with developing the policy related to parking spaces and to the program of managing waste accumulations of Nubarashen dump. In the future the EBRD will submit certain proposals regarding these two programs to the mayor of Yerevan. Karen Karapetyan noted that serious attention must be paid to state-private ownership partnership. “ Favourable investment field should be created in the capital for the entrepreneurs and investing operators. Yerevan should become a capital attractive for business”, emphasized the mayor of Yerevan.
