Tigran Avinyan Explored Decentralization and Local Government Reforms in Stockholm
At the invitation of Ryan Knox, Managing Director of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SALAR), Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan paid a working visit to Stockholm to take part in a workshop titled “Fiscal Decentralization and Local Self-Government Reforms.” During the visit, Mayor Avinyan held meetings with Leif Sandberg, First Vice President of SALAR International, Executive Director Ryan Knox, and Programme Director Lena Falcón. The discussions focused on decentralization and local self-government reforms in Armenia, financial management, and the roles and accountability of local authorities. Mayor Avinyan was also briefed on Sweden’s experience in education and fiscal decentralization and participated in an exchange of views on the Swedish equalization system.
Within the framework of the visit to the capital of the Kingdom of Sweden, Mayor Avinyan also met with his counterpart, Stockholm City Council chairman Olle Burrell. The leaders discussed issues of mutual interest, exchanged views on urban development programs and challenges, and explored potential avenues for cooperation.
Mayor Avinyan also met with the Ambassador of Armenia to Sweden, Anna Aghajanyan, and the State Secretary to the Minister for International Development Cooperation, Karin Juhlin.
