The increase of green zones is one of the main problems of Yerevan. Some city parks have been leased since the 1990s to various individuals who not only failed any maintenance and improvement the areas but are absent from the country.
In order to solve the problem, the Municipality of Yerevan formed a special working group, which regularly reconsiders the terms of the lease and due fees.
"Contracts with irresponsible lessees who don’t meet their contractual obligations must be reconsidered and terminated. All lessees are notified. The city is ready to improve the areas after getting them back and hand them over to the population," emphasized Armen Pambukhchyan, the First Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, noting that there certainly are reliable economy entities who are ready to improve the green areas of the city putting efforts into it without expecting any profit.
