Meeting of “School Council of Elders”: June 1 event in Yerevan City Hall
This year, Yerevan Municipality marked the 1st of June with a special business event. The pupils of Yerevan schools represented the highest body of self-governance at the meeting of the Council of Elders held on the International Day of Children’s protection. Kids were in the role of the Council members. The meeting was chaired by Mayor Hayk Marutyan. Deputy mayors, members of the Council of Elders, different experts were present at the meeting.
During the event called “The community for children”, the pupils of the 9th forms of the secondary schools of Yerevan presented their ideas and projects in the format of the meeting of the Council. 65 reports were selected from 93 ones presented by pupils in advance and the authors of these 65 reports played the role of the Council members.
Development of Yerevan, protection of children’s rights, ensuring convenient and safe environment; The ideas of young lawmakers related to urban economy management are different. Mayor Hayk Marutyan presented already fulfilled programs and further approaches of the city authorities.
Of 11 projects included in the agenda 9 ones were confirmed.
“I’d like to thank our schoolchildren for the active participation, interesting questions and answers, for seeing the problems and offering ways for their solution. It would be great if the meeting of the Council were always so full. It is the first time I have seen all 65 members present at the meeting: we frequently hardly provide the quorum. And the respect for each other is f not less importance. Every time we learn something, and this time we learnt from you how the Council could work and how we could behave at the meeting”, stressed the Mayor.
The most realistic projects voted for by the pupils will be included in the draft decisions of the city authorities to be put to life in the future.
