Yerevan and Leipzig are going to cooperate: Memorandum of Intent signed

The Memorandum of Intent related to the establishment of friendly relations was signed between Yerevan and Leipzig (State of Saxony, Germany). The Memorandum involves cooperation in the fields of culture, economy, tourism, youth affairs and sport.
During the online meeting, Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan and Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Yung discussed the perspectives and points of the cooperation starting between the two cities. The heads of the factions of Yerevan Council of Elders participated in the meeting as well.
Expressing gratitude for cooperation willingness Mayor of Leipzig Burkhard Young expressed hope that the Memorandum will make it possible to develop practical interaction in different spheres of urban economy.
“In the years to come the residents of Leipzig and Yerevan will keep and realize the ties. I am glad for possible experience exchange, possible projects, numerous meetings. In this regard we should do our best so that the cooperation won’t remain on paper and diverse cooperation projects can be implemented. Our two municipalities, embassies and Armenian cultural community will surely do their best to contribute to this cooperation”, noted Burkhard Yung.
Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan in his turn attached particular importance to the role of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Armenia, to the initiation of the activity of the office of Armenia’s Honorary Consul in Leipzig, as well as to the potential of the local Armenian community.
“As many other cities worldwide Yerevan has face various challenges, and we are interested in studying the experience of Leipzig in urban economy management. This document involves interesting directions of cooperation. At the same time we attach importance to implementation of economic programs. In this regard I’d be glad to invite different businessmen of Leipzig to consider possibilities of starting investment projects in Yerevan”, stressed Hayk Marutyan.
The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Armenia to Germany Mr Ashot Smbatyan and Armenia’s Honorary Consul in the State of Saxony Professor Lucas Flöther made speeches during the meeting.
The copy of Memorandum of Intents signed by Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan beforehand and sent to Leipzig was solemnly signed by Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Yung during the video meeting.
Among the cultural events provided for by the Memorandum there is a series of concerts dedicated to Bach to be held in Yerevan.
