Monument to “Nemesis” knights to be installed in Yerevan: meeting of Council of Elders taken place

The 1st meeting of the 7th session of Yerevan Council of Elders took place on September 14. The agenda involved 18 issues some of which were confirmed by the city legislators.
64 more families living in the buildings of 4th level emergency will be resettled in new flats. According to the draft decision approved by the Council, the residents of 3 buildings of dormitory located at Artsakh avenue 4th lane, 10 are to be resettled. Totally, 500 million drams will be disbursed from the city budget to purchase housing fund of 2000 sq m.

Basic school N51 after V.Petrosyan will be provided with new furniture and equipment. By the decision of the Council the school will get a capital grant. It should be noted that the school has been overhauled and now 1192 pupils of the school have started the new academic year in comfortable improved conditions.

The Council of Elders also set new rules of keeping pets in the capital. The rules existing up to now didn’t let carry out functions necessary in the sphere. In particular, there were no clear definitions of the procedure of giving permissions for keeping animals, their accounting, veterinary service and so on. According to the new rules, pet keepers can select an identification chip or stamp to be inserted in animals to create an electronic system of accounting and personalization of animals. Besides, the precondition for animals’ accounting will be their veterinary examination. Besides, keeping pets without proper control often cause increase of the number of stray animals.

A monument-fountain dedicated to the Knights of National Dignity will be installed in the green zone adjacent to Alek Manukyan street and the House of Chess after T. Petrosyan in the 4th segment of Circular park. The Council unanimously voted for the project. The petition for installation of the monument to the heroes taken fair revenge of those who organized the Armenian Genocide was applied by the heirs of the avengers. The project was widely discussed in historical circles.

Besides the issues on the agenda Yerevan Mayor touched upon transport reforms in the capital. In particular Hayk Marutyan informed that the arrival of 211 new buses at Poti port is expected on October 10, and it will take the buses about 10 days to reach Yerevan. The new 8.6 m buses will partly replace already operating itineraries and will partly work on new routes. The unified system of payment will soon be installed and it will become possible to make payments via bank cards, smartphones and other up-do-date means. This process is a midterm in transport reforms, but in the long run, after the purchase of 850 buses the new transport network suggested by the British consultant will be installed.

Answering the questions of the Council members Hayk Marutyan also referred to the problem of building development planned in Fizgorodok (Quarter of Physicists) at 1/6 Alikhanyan street. The Mayor stressed that in this issue likewise in any other issue of the sphere the Municipality acts exceptionally within the frames of the law. Discussions, meetings with the dwellers of the area and other interested people are held at the Municipality in reference with this problem.
“I’d like to inform Yerevan townspeople as well as residents of Fizgorodok that these problems are at the focus of my and the Council of Elders’ attention. I assure that everything is done in accordance with law so that justice, transparency and legality are kept in the process”, said Hayk Marutyan.

Within the frames of cooperation of the city authorities with condominiums and residents the process of locking garbage chutes is going on. Referring to this problem Hayk Marutyan stressed that there is no alternative to locking the chutes as a number of problems will be solved due to it: bad smells and rats will disappear and the sanitary conditions will be improved significantly.
