The year of 2022 was a medal-packed year for Armenia. Armenian athletes achieved more than 300 medals 104 of which are gold. For the first time Yerevan Municipality has selected the top ten best sport people of Yerevan. World and Europe medalists and their coaches were hosted in the City Hall by Yerevan deputy mayors Gevorg Simonyan and Tigran Avinyan, the RA Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Karen Giloyan and the head of Yerevan Municipality Department of Sport abs Youth Affairs Arsen Makvetsyan.
Deputy Mayor Gevorg Simonyan informed that the city authorities plan to increase the budget for such events to emphasize the willingness of Yerevan Municipality to boost the sphere of sport. Having such a medal-packed sport year is a great honour for everyone in our country.
The initiatives of Yerevan Municipality aimed at boosting the sport life in the capital will be continued. Today, the community provides all conveniences to bring up future champions.
Deputy Mayor Tigran Avinyan claimed that the attention to sport life and sport schools will increase. The full renovation of Shengavit sport school is almost completed and renovation of several other sport schools has been planned for next year. Opening of module schools in Yerevan and throughout the republic has been discussed with the RA ESCS Ministry. The Deputy Minister thanked those present sport figures for their efforts put into sport development.
According to Deputy Minister Karen Giloyan, it is highly important that this year two big sport events were held in Yerevan – European Boxing Championship and World Youth, Junior and Cadets SAMBO Championship. Due to proper organization and holding of the events it was decided that Armenia will host the World Adult Sambo Championship in November 2023. Before it, Yerevan will host the World Weightlifting Championship.
During the reception in the City Hall, the world and Europe medalists and their coaches were rewarded with monetary prizes. Such financial encouragement will become a good tradition.
