Yerevan yard areas are improved

19.07.2021

The improvement activities being carried out in Yerevan yards these days have one target – to provide comfortable environment for residents. The process goes on more effectively when residents themselves give the ideas for improvement. The “Active citizen” platform launched by the Municipality of Yerevan gave citizens the opportunity to make suggestions related to Yerevan development and today some projects are being fulfilled.
One of the projects related building a sportsground and installing LED illumination in Haghtanak quarters. The author and the winner of the project is Shushanik Ghevondyan. Another project which was voted for and won was connected with the improvement in Kanaker Zeytun district and its authors were Arthur Maronyan and Taron Miroyan.
The current programs of Yerevan Municipality also involve creation of rest zones in administrative districts and well-arrangement of yard areas. The projects follow the principle of proportional development of the city.
According to the head of Davtashen district Sasha Katvalyan, three yard areas are going to be improved in Davtashen this year. The program also includes construction of a new football pitch. The project has two stages. The second one includes the construction of a basketball court and a track in the same way.

The head of Nubarashen district Andranik Gasparyan informed that the park of nearly 5000 sq m adjacent to 11th street had been completely well-arranged: walkways have been paved, LED illumination, benches have been installed, playgrounds have been built for kids.
The head of Kentron district Avet Poghosyan informed that the most large scale yard improvement is going on in the central area of the capital. They are trying to provide maximal convenient conditions for residents so that they could spend their free time in yard areas and communicate with one another.

According to the head of Kanaker-Zeytun district Karen Hakobyan, three yard areas are to be well-arranged this year. The improvement is mainly possible due to replacement of garages and fenced neglected areas with green zones and playgrounds. The same processes are going on in Erebuni district as the head of the district Arman Abrahamyan informed.

There are many examples of successful cooperation between the community and the private sector. The principle of social responsibility can be seen in creation of recreation zones. Thus, the quarter of Nerqin Charbakh will have its comfortable rest zone. The head of Shengavit district Razmik Mkrtchyan informed that Arthur Abraham, a famous boxer and Honorary Citizen of Yerevan, was the owner of this area in Nerqin Charbakh. He spent his childhood here, went to school here and later bought this plot. However, he decided to turn it into a recreation zone for residents. As he says, “People don’t live forever but their deeds can be eternal. And if we are succeeded in something we should leave something after us so that to preserve that success”.

The main goal of the city authorities is to make Yerevan an environment with safe, healthy area convenient for living, working and resting and an attractive destination for tourism. And to achieve all this it is highly important to cooperate tightly with townspeople.
