Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan familiarized himself with the pace of the work.
“The program is of high importance for the city as it will relieve the traffic of the capital and create alternative roads for different segments of the city”, said the Mayor. The construction started at the end of last year within the frames of the 2nd trench of the investment program “Sustainable urban development” of the Asian Development Bank.
Yerevan Municipality considers various programs aimed at traffic relieve in the capital. The Mayor considers installation of the new transport network to be the key step. The Argavand-Shirak road segment also involves the metal bridge of 25 m length and 28 m width across the Hrazdan river, as well as the overpass over the transport hub of Isakov avenue and Babajanyan street. The new bridge will have special stations for cleaning up the rain waters before dumping into the river. By the way, today it takes drivers 25 minutes to get from Argavand to Shirak, but after operation of the new road and the bridge it will take only 1-2 minutes.
During the program implementation all communication lines will be replaced, and energy saving LED lamps will be installed in the system of external lighting.

The construction will last 21 months. The road leading to Argavand highway will join the segment of Babajanyan street-Ashtarak highway. The length of the road will be 9.4 km with 4-6 lanes with average width of 24 m.
It is planned to put the road into operation in 2020. Generally, the western bypass of Yerevan will be 23 km long and will connect the northern and southern gates of the capital.
