Library after Avetik Isahakyan needs to be expanded

15.02.2019

The central library after Avetik Isahakyan serves up to 1500 visitors daily. Some of them prefer reading and working on the spot-in the reading hall the surface of which is only 50 sq m.
The Municipality of Yerevan is well aware of the problem and the possibilities of expansion are being discussed currently. Deputy Mayor Tigran Virabyan and the Chief Architect of Yerevan Arthur Meschyan who visited the library familiarized themselves with the proposed variants and discussed them.

“The library is in the city centre and any architectural interference can cause problems. Therefore, the variants of solution to that problem must be acceptable for everyone”, stressed Tigran Virabyan.
The new reading halls of the library must be comfortable and available for everyone first of all for people with disabilities.
“We hope that the solution will be found as readers of Yerevan are waiting for it”, said the director of the library Hasmik Karapetyan.
The US Embassy in Armenia also expressed willingness to participate in the program of the library expansion.
“It is known that the library after Isahakyan has an “American corner”. They are ready to assist in technical re-equipment of the library which is also very important”, stressed Tigran Virabyan.
The program of libraries reformation which was started from the central library after Isahakyan will be continued in other municipal libraries of Yerevan.
In near future Yerevan Municipality will continue the initiatives for using modern technologies in libraries and attraction of readers.
