A program of installation of special barriers has started in the capital to give back the sidewalks to passers-by and to exclude car parking in these areas.

According to the member of Yerevan Council of Elders Levon Zakaryan, sidewalks are often packed with vehicles which hinders people’s movement and makes it unsafe.
The annual program of Yerevan Municipality involves all administrative districts. 610 wrought iron barriers are to be installed in 2021.


The head of Construction and Improvement Department of Yerevan Municipality Grigor Harutyunyan informed that the administrative districts and the Road Police provide them with a list of location and volumes of work to be done. In Kentron districts 60 barriers have been installed, 30 ones are provided for Shengavit district and the program will gradually be carried out wherever necessary.

Although parking in sidewalks is prohibited and fines are imposed the police should be more consistent and the citizens should be more conscientious not to create obstacles for safe movement.
