The 5th jubilee Yerevan Beer Fest dedicated to the 2800th anniversary of Yerevan foundation has been held in the area adjacent to Swan’s Lake. The event which become so popular with townspeople and guests of the capital is held by Yerevan Municipality tourism division within the framework of “Yerevan summer 2018” program of three-month events. Yerevan Mayor’s Assistant coordinating the sphere of tourism, director of the festival Maria Baraghamyan who was present at the opening ceremony, while presenting the history of the festival stressed that the annual increasing of the number of participants witnesses the rise of interest towards this project.
“During the recent 5-6 years event tourism has become popular in Yerevan due to which many tourists visit the capital to participate in festivals. The aim of Yerevan Beer Fest is to familiarize people with the traditions of Armenian brewing and to give the Armenian brewery companies the opportunity to get united and present their production. The festival certainly can become the bet in the region and to boost tourism”, said Mayor’s Assistant Maria Baraghamyan.
The head of Yerevan Municipality tourism division Gevorg Orbelyan in his turn referring to the activities aimed at tourism development noted that organization of festivals is the best stimulus particularly for those who is fond of active rest.
“Throughout the year and particularly in summer Yerevan Municipality initiates a number of interesting festivals in which visitors can take direct participation”, said the head of tourism division Gevorg Orbelyan.
After the opening ceremony the director of festival Maria Baraghamyan, the head of Yerevan Municipality Department of Culture Ruben Hovhannisyan and the head of tourism division Gevorg Orbelyan toured about the pavilions. The festival was accompanied by the performances of popular Armenian singers, “Milen show-ballet” group and the music program of Alexandropol band. Special guest of the fest was Aram MP3.
In 20 pavilions of the 5th Beer fest was presented the production of 10 Armenian brewing companies.
This year the “Yerevan beer” factory is represented with “Kilikia” dark, “Kilikia” light and “Yerevan” sorts of beer. “Gyumry” brewery is represented with the same-name beer; “Kotayk” brewery-with “Kotayk”, “Kotayk gold” and ‘Erebuni” sorts. Beer Academy offers the visitors to taste “Classic”, “Light grain” and “Dark” sorts. “Dilijan” brewery offers “Dilijan” and Dilijan 1” sorts. This year the beer workshop “Tovmas” has taken part in the fest for the first time offering unfiltered beer (light classic).

According to the marketing specialist of “Yerevan Beer” factory, this initiative of Yerevan Municipality has become the most popular event among brewery producers. The representative of “Gyumri” factory in his turn noted that Beer Fest is a big event and a good opportunity to present their own production. The representative of “Kotayk” brewery, referring to the results of the festival noted that the most important aspect of the festival is to present Armenian production to foreign consumers. The representative of “Dilijan” factory stressed that within a few years Yerevan Beer Fest will be able to compete with other prestigious festivals.
Pubs and restaurants traditionally took part in the 5th Beer Fest. This year “wild West” pub presents its same-name production; “Karloff” restaurant presents the same-name Czech beer produced locally. “BeerMania” café offers “Keller” sort of beer made at Sevan brewery.
it should be noted that the tourism division set concrete rules for participants according to which the companies sell beer not in glass vessels and at the prices lower than at the market. Besides, selling beer to juveniles is prohibited.
During the festival 2-3 contests were held in each pavilion,the winners got diplomas and presents from Yerevan tourism division and participating companies. The visitors will also have the opportunity to take free photos with the characters representing the Urartian period at the photo atelier “Marashlean”. According to the organizers, more than 10 000 visitors are expected.
We’d like to remind that Yerevan Beer Fest is the third big event with touristic component after “Yerevan with Flair” and “Yerevan TARAZfest”.
Te participants of the jubilee event noted that this initiative is a real fest for beer lovers and from year to year it becomes more and more interesting. Those who took part in the fest for the first time assured that the next year they would be back to Yerevan to meet their friends at beer fest.
