Energy Efficiency Program of Yerevan to be started: agreement on overhauling of two kindergartens has been signed

Within the framework of the Energy Efficiency Program of Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan and the contractor organization won in the competition signed the agreement on overhauling kindergartens n.36 and n.49. With this agreement the program has been given a start. The program involves improvement of energy efficiency, seismic stability and sanitary conditions. The buildings will be adapted for people with locomotor disabilities. The Energy Efficiency Program of Yerevan involves overhauling of 15 kindergartens, and actions aimed at energy efficiency increase will be carried out in a number of pre-schools.
During the video meeting with the program supporters Mayor Marutyan particularly stressed, “Due to your support we have been able to hold the construction tender despite the epidemic situation, as a result, our children will get overhauled kindergartens where the energy efficiency and sanitary conditions will comply with norms, I hope our next meeting will be held in Yerevan, and we will show you already overhauled kindergartens”, said the Mayor expressing gratitude to donor organizations, particularly to the members of Eastern Europe Energy Efficiency and Environment Partnership (E5P) Fund: the EU, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Norway and Taiwan Business Fund.
The head of the EU Armenian Office, EU Ambassador Ms Andrea Viktorin in her turn noted that this program will contribute to the improvement of health and welfare of townspeople and future generations.
“The sphere of construction is of important significance to achieve the energetic and environmental goals of the EU. The capital renovation of a number of Yerevan kindergartens including seismic fortification and better sanitary conditions, accessibility of the buildings for people with locomotor disabilities have positive influence on citizens; life quality, and parents are more willing to take their kids to kindergartens. These actions benefit to mitigation of climate change impact and decrease the costs for energy supply disbursed from the budget of the Municipality of Yerevan”, stressed the EU Ambassador.
The E5P representative Ms Eva Manik congratulating the Municipality of Yerevan ad the European Investment Bank on successful completion of the first competition noted that the grant allotted by the foundation will be aimed at large-scale actions of energy efficiency increase, at thermal insulation of the buildings and reduction of costs.
The total cost of Yerevan Energy Efficiency Program is 15 million euro. It is financed by the European Investment Bank – 7 million euro loan; by the E5P Fund – 5 million euro investment grant; by the Green Climate Foundation (via UNDP) – 1 million euro technical aid grant and by Yerevan Municipality – 2 million euro co-financing as well as additional technical assistance grants from the EU community aid programs (250.000 euro); Eastern Partnership Technical Assistance Trust Fund grants (250.000 euro) and from inner means of the EIB (50.000 euro).
