Nowadays, one of the most crucial tasks of the city authorities is the improvement of the city environment and expansion of green zones.

Director of “Landscaping and Environment Protection” NCO Armen Begoyan explained some details related to the problem. Accordingly, landscaping and greening are impossible without proper irrigation. The Municipality replaces old water pipes with new ones and the company in its turn installed about 20 km of irrigation network only this year. The new systems are installed in the parks, sidewalk areas and lawns. The city forest nursery where the majority of plants for the city greening are grown, will get a new irrigation network as well. However, today the irrigation is carried out by hand.
Two large-scale projects are going to be implemented in greenhouse facilities of Yerevan: one is the formation of an eco-park near the nursery. It will serve as an education centre and as a new touristic nook in Yerevan rich with rare and valuable plants. The authorities have removed piles of litter and dry branches from this area and currently the system of sprinkler irrigation is to be installed in the area.
Yerevan Municipality also carries out activities to restore the forest areas of 10 ha. A number of trees are going to be planted this autumn. The surface of 6.5 ha in Tsitsernakaberd and of 4 ha in Saralanji area will be turned into arboretum. For the first time all plantings, nearly 97% will be provided from the city greenhouse economy. As a result no finances will be needed to lay 10 ha of forests.
“Landscaping and Environment Protection” company will also replace dried trees with new ones more suitable for the climate of Yerevan. Besides trees the main part of the flowers to be planted in the city will provided from the city greenhouse. Generally, new approached to greening are starting in Yerevan.
9 new units of machinery-7 trucks and 2 sprinkler machinery- will be added to 50 ones already operated.
The activities are going on in several directions and are aimed at making the surroundings greener and more convenient.
