New vacancies in urban development sphere: regular meeting of Council of Elders taken place

Yerevan Council of Elders awarded Aghvan Chatinyan with the tile of Honorary Citizen of Yerevan for more than 60 years of devoted sport and pedagogic activity, educating generations, contribution to the sphere of physical culture and sport, significant role in mountaineering development and efficient activity aimed at sport development in Armenia.

The Council also voted for the project of awarding names to two schools. Thus, Yerevan secondary school N87 has been named after Armenian American benefactors Jacob and Lutovica Ayntapleanns, and the basic school N 49 has been named after the monumental sculptor Ara Harutyunyan.

The Council of Elders also confirmed the draft decision on joining the “Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy” initiative. Accordingly, Yerevan undertakes the responsibility to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% at least and to increase climate change adaptation in Yerevan by 2030. After joining the Covenant, various environmental measures aimed at climate change mitigation and adaptation are to be planned and undertaken.

By another decision of the Council, new vacancies are going to be added at the Department of Architecture and Urban Development. Mayor’s advisor David Chgnavoryan presenting the draft decision noted that significant increase of applications related to legalization of illegal constructions had been fixed recently, and to provide fast and effective service for citizens new employees are required.
The next meeting of the Council of Elders of Yerevan has been scheduled for May 25.
