“Yerevan” park is opened in Riga

During the official visit to Riga Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan together with Riga Mayor Nil Ushakov and the representatives of the local Armenian community was present at the opening ceremony of “Yerevan” park.

In his greeting speech Riga Mayor Nil Ushakov thanked Yerevan Mayor and the Armenian community of Riga for the construction of the park and expressed confidence that the park will become one of the favourite recreation zones in the city.
“Yerevan” park opened in Riga today is a big present for the residents of all ages. This park also witnesses the strong friendship and effective cooperation between the two cities. There is excellent relationship between Yerevan and Riga and I want to thank Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan for it as he contributed greatly to the establishment of effective cooperation. During the park construction we always felt the support of Yerevan Municipality. I congratulate the residents of our city and wish them to enjoy “Yerevan” park”, said Nil Ushakov.
Greeting those present Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan thanked the authors of the project outlining that it is another proof of the friendship and partnership developing between the two cities from day to day.
“The cooperation between Yerevan and Riga has a many-year history. Friendship and partnership between our countries are increasingly developing and the ties between the two sister-cities are becoming stronger too. And all this is carried out by means of concrete programs. Today we are in Riga on the event of opening “Yerevan” park and first of all I want to express gratitude to my colleague Nil Ushakov and his team for the assistance in the realization of this project. I would also like to express my gratitude to the members of Riga Duma who unanimously voted for naming the park after Yerevan. I also highly appreciate the initiative, efforts and the work done by the representatives of the local Armenian community Yuri Sahakyan and Aram Harityunyan. I also want the thank the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia to the RA Armen Ghasaboghlyan for permanent active support in the realization of programs between the two capitals. And I certainly want to thank all the people who contributed to “Yerevan” park creation in Riga. I am sure that this wonderful park designed with the application of Armenian and Yerevan elements will become a favourite place both for Riga townspeople and the guests of our sister-city”, said Taron Margaryan.
During the ceremony of opening the Mayors of the two cities awarded a number of persons with thanksgiving diplomas for their contribution to strengthening the friendly ties between Yerevan and Riga, as well as for the realization of “Yerevan” park construction.
As a token of friendship between two nations and cities the Mayors of Yerevan and Riga planted an oak tree which is the national symbol of Latvia.
Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan accompanied by Riga Mayor walked about the park, familiarized himself with the work done. Riga Mayor Nil Ushakov noted that all the conditions required for full recreation had been provided in the park. The new recreation zone is provided with modern children's games sport equipment and benches with “Yerevan” inscribed on them.
