The delegation headed by the Governor of Saint Petersburg visited the Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex

The Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgi Poltavchenko and the members of the official delegation headed by him arrived in Yerevan at the behest of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, visited the Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex together with the First Deputy Mayor Kamo Areyan to pay the tribute to 1.5 million Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide.

The delegation put a wreath at the memorial and flowers at the Eternal Fire. Then the guests visited the museum-institute of the Armenian Genocide, familiarized themselves with the exhibition. The Governor of Saint Petersburg Georgi Poltavchenko handed the museum-institute some documents which contained documentary materials about the aid shown In Petersburg to Armenians survived in the Genocide.
“Many Armenians found a shelter in Saint Petersburg which was called Petrograd at that time, and throughout Russia in general. A company was even created to coordinate necessary aid”, said Georgi Poltavchenko.
The Governor of Saint Petersburg also left a writing in the register of honorary guests.
The deputy director of the RA NAS museum-institute of Genocide Suren Manukyan presented Georgi Poltavchenko a silver memorial medal issued in 1916 by the governor who led Petrograd in the period of the Armenian Genocide. The medal contains an inscription in Russian which means “Russians and Armenians in the year of hardships. 1915. God save Armenians”
