04.05.2018

At the initiative of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan, this year nearly 1700 parents of the servicemen from Yerevan traditionally visited their sons serving in the frontier military units.

From year to year this social program is improving its importance as with each visit more and more parents want to take of this opportunity. Since 2013 more than 10000 parents got the opportunity to visit their sons.
This time the parents were seen off from the area of the historical and archaeological reserve-museum “Erebuni” where they were wished a bon voyage by Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan and the Acting Minister of the RA Defence Vigen Sargsyan. Comfortable buses allotted to the parents were escorted by the Road Police and there were physicians on the buses.
Traditionally, before reaching the military units the parents visited Surb Amenaprkich church (Holy Savior) in Shushi where they lit candles and took part in the liturgy. On the event of parents’ visit solemn ceremonies were organized. The parents laid flowers at the graves of fallen azatamartiks.
The soldiers stood out during the service were awarded with Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan’s thanksgiving diplomas. All military units got presents on behalf of Yerevan Mayor.
Expressing gratitude for the opportunity the fixed-period servicemen and their parents noted that this program of Yerevan Municipality is highly important as it helps to encourage soldiers.
