Day of Elderly people: open-air fair of their handmade works
October 1 is marked as the Day of Elderly People. Supported by Yerevan Municipality and the RA Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs, the “Mission Armenia” charitable NGO initiated an exhibition-fair in the park after Komitas. Handmade works created by elderly people were presented at the fair.
The First Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Hrachya Sargsyan, the Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Affairs Tatevik Stepanyan were present at the event. The guests were presented the achievements gained in various spheres by the elderly beneficiaries of 20 centres of care in Armenia. The achievements included handmade crafts, published books authored by the elderly.
Hrachya Sargsyan claimed that Yerevan Municipality always focuses attention on the problems of elderly people and takes actions to solve them as far as possible. A number of social initiatives are included in the annual programs.
In collaboration of Yerevan Municipality Department of Children’s and Social Protection with “Mission Armenia” NGO, ingoing trips to the sights of Armenia were organized for lonely and needy elderly people.
Yerevan Municipality allocated 8 areas to “Mission Armenia” NGO free of charge. In these areas elderly and needy people get care. Due to the support of the community the problem of renting the facilities of the centre of care in Ajapnyak district has been solved.
The programs anticipated by Yerevan Municipality for elderly people will be continued.
