Division for youth and sport affairs
Sport and Youth Problems division shall
- restoring sport traditions promote their spreading, ensure the purposeful use of sport constructions in Yerevan,
- organize and control the activity of sport institutions subordinated to the municipality,
- if necessary submit proposes regarding the expansion, reconstruction, liquidation of the sport construction and creating new ones, installing state orders in those institutions, control the process of paid services there,
- organize mass sports events dedicated to the citywide, state, national holidays,
- work out programs for holding international sport tournaments in Yerevan,
- promote the restoring and spreading of the national kinds of sports,
- organize the coordination and development of physical education in secondary schools, the control and attestation of paid groups and trainers, as well as promote the spreading of Olympic, oriental sports and healthy life style.

Summary of Activities of the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs in 2024
Throughout the year, 15 international tournaments were held in the following sports: volleyball, basketball, table tennis, judo, gymnastics, badminton, tennis, boxing, Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling.
21 city tournaments and 3 citywide mass events were held. Promoting a healthy lifestyle among the population, competitions for the elderly in Yerevan were held in 4 sports.
Emphasizing the role of people with disabilities in society, the department organized an annual Spartakiad for people with disabilities in 4 sports.
As part of the youth events program, 2 city events were organized on the occasion of the International Youth Day and International Volunteer Day, and the 10 best young volunteers were awarded for their work.
For the first time in Armenia, a unique ice fairy-tale performance was presented to the audience at the Yerevan Figure Skating and Hockey Sports School. The ice performance "The Story of the Snow Queen," based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale "The Snow Queen," featured professional athletes and coaches of the sports school, as well as artists of a unique genre.
For the third year in a row, the department organized the end-of-year award ceremony for the best athletes. In two nominations, 10 best and 10 leading athletes were awarded. The 10 best athletes received 3 million AMD, and their coaches received 1 million AMD, while the 10 leading athletes were awarded 400,000 AMD, and their coaches received 200,000 AMD.

Current Events:
From February 1 to 7, 2025, the 2nd Pan-Armenian Winter Games were held in Jermuk in seven sports: cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, snowboarding, hockey, snowball fighting, sports dancing, and chess. Yerevan teams competed in cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, snowboarding, hockey, chess, and sports dancing.
On February 22, 2025, gymnast Vahagn Davtyan, Deputy Head of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department of Yerevan Municipality, won the gold medal in the first stage of the World Cup held in Cottbus, Germany.
