9 itineraries in Yerevan are already been served by 100 compact buses the purchase of which was financed from the community budget. The transport reforms started from the beginning of the year have relived residents’ concerns related to public transport.

“Currently we have 9 new itineraries. Some of them haven’t been operated for a year or two as they were private and the owners had refused to serve them as it provide no profit. So, the city has assumed this problem and now serves the population. Some itineraries had no proper quality and didn’t correspond standards, and they were replaced with new ones as well”, said the Mayor.
Due to the transport reforms some residential areas which never used to have public transport access now have new routes and Nubarashen administrative district now have the second bus route which reaches Yerablur pantheon.
The new buses have low floors so are available for wheelchairs, the cabin has video surveillance.
This autumn the public transport of the capital will also have the system of e-payment and new big-capacity buses will arrive. 100 more high-quality buses will be purchased by the community next year.
“The transport system reforms are going on as scheduled. We have various problems that are gradually solved. This autumn we will install e-payment system which will include all types of payments. In autumn we are awaiting 211 buses of 8,6 m which correspond to international standards and are operated on natural gas considered to be more eco-friendly. We need special stations to park these buses and those stations are under construction now. There are two stations: one is in Jrvezh and it is being reconstructed, the second is in Shirak street which is just being constructed”, stressed Hayk Marutyan.
