88 cities of 42 countries are members of the AIMF including Lyon, Marseille, Paris and Montreal collaborating with Yerevan.
The decision on making Yerevan a member of AIMF was taken on May 30 - June1 1998 during the 18th Assembly taken place in Beirut.
On September 29 2009, the delegation headed by the Mayor of Yerevan took part in the preparatory assembly of Armenian-French consultations of the decentralized cooperation which took place in Paris, and on October 2 it participated in the ceremony of opening of the 30th Summit of AIMF.
By the decision of the Association Bureau the 31st Summit of AIMF was hosted on October 24-27 2011 in Yerevan. About 300 delegates from 45 countries including 117 mayors took part in the activities of the Summit the theme of which was «Strengthening ties between territories». The main theme of the discussions was improvement of the quality of services of local government.
During the 34th General summit of AIMF held in Kinshasa in November 2014 the Bureau consented to show financial support to the central library of Nor Nork district of Yerevan with the aim of creation of Francophinia corner there. On May 13-17 of this year the Permanent Secretary of the AIMF Pierre Baillet arrived in Yerevan to discuss bilateral issues and to sign the agreement on financial aid to the central library of Nor Nork.
During the 34th General Assembly of the AIMF held in Kinshasa in November 2014 the Bureau agreed to show financial aid to the central library of Nor Nork district of Yerevan with the aim of opening a francophone corner there. On May 13-17, 2015 the Resident Secretary of the AIMF Pierre Baillet arrived in Yerevan to discuss bilateral issues and to sign an treaty on financial aid to be disbursed for Nor Nork central library.
At the behest of the Mayor of Paris, the President of AIMF Anne Hidalgo On November 6-10, 2015 Yerevan delegation was in Tunis, the capital of Tunisia to take part in the regular General Assembly of the AIMF.
